“Conectando Vidas” and “Mi Tiempo, Mi Fuerza”: the music of the Asperger World Meeting

Not everything at the Asperger World Meeting is talks. All three editions have had music, and in 2024 that music became part of the message.

The anthem: “Conectando Vidas: Rompiendo el Silencio”

The 3rd Meeting opened with its anthem. The lyrics — “connecting lives, breaking the silence, together we are more” — turn the edition's motto, Lives in connection, into a song, along with its central theme: suicide prevention. It speaks of not walking alone, of listening to “the heartbeat of so many souls around” and of making a difference.

The album: “Mi Tiempo, Mi Fuerza”

The 2024 day also presented the album “Mi Tiempo, Mi Fuerza”, available as a playlist. A community music project, meant to carry the Meeting's message beyond the day of the event.

Music across the three editions

Back at the 2nd Meeting (2023), music had its own place: teenage pianist David García — born in Venezuela, living in Panama, trained since he was 7 — brought a message in the key of piano. And several autistic people at the Meeting are also creators: they compose songs, take photographs, make visual art or video games. As more than one speaker explained, for many people on the spectrum the artistic interest is a tool for emotional regulation and connection with the world.
